Real networks are discussed in the fourth section, where we present some well-known and representative examples of correlated structures, such as the science collaboration network of physicists submitting papers to a preprint database, the Pretty-Good-Privacy web of trust between users of digital communications, the world-wide air transportation network (all of them assortative), and the Internet at the Autonomous System level, the protein interaction network of the yeast S.

Moreover, the distinction between the various types of networks should not be considered a draconian one: we do not know, at the present state, how much real growing networks are also ruled by some of the ingredients of static networks, nor how much static networks, that can form in real time under our very eyes such as protein interaction networks, do not carry, imprinted on them in some ways, their own evolution, that is their own growth.
